NEW DELHI, 26 December 2025: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for copra for the 2026 season, reinforcing the government’s commitment to providing remunerative prices to coconut growers.
For the 2026 season, the MSP for Fair Average Quality (FAQ) milling copra has been fixed at ₹12,027 per quintal, while ball copra will attract an MSP of ₹12,500 per quintal. This represents an increase of ₹445 per quintal for milling copra and ₹400 per quintal for ball copra compared to the previous season.
The MSP fixation follows the government’s policy announced in the Union Budget 2018–19, under which MSPs for all mandated crops are set at a minimum of 1.5 times the all-India weighted average cost of production. The sustained upward revision in copra MSP reflects this cost-plus approach aimed at safeguarding farmer incomes.
Over the long term, the increase has been significant. The MSP for milling copra has risen from ₹5,250 per quintal in the 2014 marketing season to ₹12,027 per quintal in 2026, registering a growth of 129 per cent. Similarly, ball copra MSP has increased from ₹5,500 per quintal to ₹12,500 per quintal during the same period, marking a rise of 127 per cent.
The higher MSP is expected to ensure better and more stable returns for coconut farmers, while also encouraging increased copra production to meet the growing domestic and international demand for coconut-based products.
For procurement under the Price Support Scheme (PSS), the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. (NAFED) and the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation (NCCF) will continue to function as Central Nodal Agencies, ensuring effective market intervention and price support for farmers.
