NEW DELHI, 11 August 2025: The Digital Agriculture Mission (DAM), approved in September 2024, is laying the groundwork for a national Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) to transform farm services through data-driven solutions. The initiative encompasses Agri Stack, the Krishi Decision Support System, a comprehensive Soil Fertility & Profile Map, and other IT-led agricultural reforms.
Agri Stack is built around three foundational registries — Geo-Referenced Village Maps, Crop Sown Registry, and the Farmers Registry — all maintained by State Governments and Union Territories. As of August 4, 2025, over 7.04 crore Farmer IDs have been generated, with 492 districts participating in a Digital Crop Survey covering more than 23.5 crore plots during Rabi 2024–25.
The system consolidates farmer demographic profiles, landholdings, and cropping patterns, enabling States to design targeted schemes and farmers to access services such as credit, crop insurance, and procurement digitally. Notably, Farmer IDs are now being used for enrolment in the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) in Maharashtra from Kharif 2025, with Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh following suit.
The database also underpins the issue of Kisan Credit Cards (KCC), improving access to agricultural loans. Currently, data from Agri Stack is shared exclusively with government agencies for implementing farmer welfare schemes.
Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ramnath Thakur informed the Rajya Sabha that the mission’s digital backbone will enable timely, reliable, and farmer-centric solutions while opening doors to India’s agricultural digital economy.
