NEW DELHI, 11 August 2025: The CROPIC mobile application, developed under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), is enabling real-time crop monitoring and damage assessment through geotagged photographs, the Union Agriculture Ministry informed recently.

Designed to collect time-series, geotagged images from farmers and field coordinators via smartphones, CROPIC aids in validating insured crops and assessing losses caused by localised calamities. The app is intended to strengthen the transparency, speed, and evidence-based nature of crop insurance claims, while also assisting in disaster response and data-backed policy-making.

While the government is not planning to create a public dashboard for CROPIC data, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ramnath Thakur said the platform would continue to enhance efficiency in the crop loss evaluation process.

Complementing the CROPIC initiative, the Krishi Rakshak Portal and Helpline (14447) has been integrated with insurers’ databases, allowing farmers to raise grievances, with fixed timelines for resolution. Officials expect the combined system to expedite claim settlements and improve farmer satisfaction under PMFBY.
