NEW DELHI, 25 October 2025: To promote efficient water use and enhance farmer income, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has introduced greater flexibility under the Per Drop More Crop (PDMC) scheme. The move allows States and Union Territories to implement micro-level water storage and conservation projects under the “Other Interventions” (OI) category.
Under the revised guidelines, States and UTs can now plan activities such as diggi construction and local water harvesting systems based on regional needs. These initiatives can serve individual farmers or communities, ensuring sustainable water availability for micro-irrigation.
Previously, funding for such measures was capped at 20 per cent of the total allocation for each State or UT, and 40 per cent for North Eastern, Himalayan States, and the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. The new provisions allow States and UTs to exceed these limits according to local requirements, offering greater flexibility in addressing water challenges.
The enhanced scope under PDMC aims to support farmers in adopting micro-irrigation techniques, improving water-use efficiency, and ultimately boosting agricultural productivity and income.
