NEW DELHI, 9 July 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a widespread rainfall alert as monsoon conditions intensify across much of the country.
Fueled by a combination of active weather systems—including a low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal, a cyclonic circulation over South Gujarat, and an active monsoon trough—the country is likely to see significant precipitation over the coming days.
Rainfall activity is forecast to span across East, Central, West, Northwest, Northeast, and Southern India, with varying levels of intensity and distribution.
East & Central India: Brace for Extremely Heavy Rainfall
Regions such as East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal are under high alert. The IMD warns of extremely heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) in East Madhya Pradesh today (July 9) as the low-pressure system moves west-northwestward through Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.

The Western Himalayan region and surrounding plains are expected to see heavy to very heavy rainfall, especially in Uttarakhand and East Rajasthan.

The cyclonic circulation over South Gujarat is fueling very heavy showers across western India, especially in Gujarat, Konkan & Goa, and the Ghats of Maharashtra.

The IMD urges citizens in vulnerable regions to stay indoors during severe weather, avoid waterlogged areas, and follow advisories issued by local disaster management authorities. Farmers are advised to delay sowing or harvesting activities in flood-affected districts and secure stored grains and inputs.
