AYODHYA, 15 April 2025: In a pioneering move to integrate agriculture with tourism, the Uttar Pradesh government has approved the establishment of a model agro-tourism centre at Acharya Narendra Deva University of Agriculture and Technology, Ayodhya.
The Yogi Adityanath-led administration has sanctioned ₹1.5 crore for the project, with preparations already underway at the university.
The initiative aims to promote agro-tourism in India, offering a unique platform for farmers, students, and tourists to experience agricultural innovation and sustainable practices first-hand. According to university officials, the upcoming centre is expected to set a national benchmark in experiential rural tourism.
As part of the project, a fully-equipped agro-resort will be constructed on the main campus. Visitors will have the opportunity to engage in a range of agricultural activities including organic farming, animal husbandry, fisheries, and food processing. The Home Science department will also showcase traditional recipes using nutri-cereals and coarse grains, enhancing awareness about nutrition and millet-based cuisine.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Bijendra Singh confirmed that the agro-tourism hub would not only act as a knowledge exchange zone but also inspire farmers to replicate similar models on their own farms, fostering farm-to-tourism entrepreneurship.
“Agriculture is more than production—it’s a way of life. This centre will help bridge the gap between rural livelihoods and tourism by demonstrating real-time farming practices in a welcoming, educational environment,” Dr. Singh stated.
A multidisciplinary team is currently preparing the detailed project report, covering aspects such as infrastructure, visitor engagement, sustainability practices, and culinary tourism. The resort will include amenities such as cooking areas, accommodation, and interactive learning zones.
Visible progress on the infrastructure is expected within the next six months. Officials are optimistic that once completed, the centre will become a flagship destination for agri-tourism in Uttar Pradesh, attracting visitors from across the country and abroad.
