A MoU was signed between NCDEX and Haridra, turmeric research centre
MUMBAI, 28 September 2023: The maiden one-day Global Turmeric Conference here ended with deliberation around challenges and opportunities that would pave the way of growth and development of Turmeric ecosystem often referred as ‘golden commodity’.
The conference organized by NICR (NCDEX Institute of Commodity Research) that witnessed huge participation from stakeholders of the turmeric ecosystem.
A MoU was also signed between NCDEX and Haridra to collaborate to take initiatives on awareness on quality, grades, cultivation practices, price risk management, finance etc. to develop entire turmeric value chain.
Hemant Patil, Member of Parliament from Hingoli who is spearheading the Balasaheb Thackeray Haridra Research and Training Center said “Tumreric is now doing wonders for Maharashtra farmers. Around 7-8 districts in the state is producing about 25 lakh tons of turmeric which is roughly 50 percent of the total domestic consumption of our country. Moreover, some places in Maharashtra are growing turmeric with 5-6 percent curcumin which is almost double the average curcumin content of the turmeric produced in India. This crop has become a prime medium to double farmers’ income and our upcoming research centre is going to take this process to the next level,”

This brings cohesion and compatibility in overall working of the industry. The exchange is all about creating a common place of transactions for all the market participants and this maiden Global Turmeric Conference has successfully achieved its objectives,” Arun Raste, MD & CEO, NCDEX said.
The event provided a platform for discussing different elements of the turmeric sector, such as best production practices, marketing, Quality, Price risk management, and international trade. The conference also highlighted how new technology, processing practices, and input developments are revolutionizing the turmeric business. Weather conditions, which have a significant impact on crop cultivation, were discussed, providing insights into their impact on turmeric planting. Furthermore, the event delved into the new horizons of turmeric, addressing ideas and tactics to boost industrial growth within the sector.
The conference was presented by Everest Masale and supported by Haridra.
