Agritech tools target farm emissions as Net Zero caps widen

Koltiva rolls out farm-level emissions and traceability tools as 82% of global Net Zero targets lack verification, helping agribusinesses meet Scope 3, deforestation and climate disclosure rules.

ZURICH / Switzerland, 27 January 2026: Agriculture and food systems account for nearly one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions, yet much of the impact remains unmeasured at the farm level, creating blind spots for corporates pursuing climate commitments and exposing supply chains to regulatory and financial risk.

Industry data show land-use change, livestock and crop production together outweigh food transport emissions, while agriculture is linked to roughly 75% of global deforestation. Despite this footprint, companies largely rely on aggregated estimates rather than verified field data. The result: 82% of global Net Zero targets remain unverified, primarily due to weak Scope 3 reporting.

Swiss AgriTech group Koltiva is seeking to close that gap through digital monitoring and traceability platforms designed to quantify emissions at source. Its KoltiTrace MIS suite integrates satellite imagery, geospatial analytics and on-the-ground data collection to map land-use change, fertilizer inputs, energy consumption and livestock practices across thousands of farms.

Executives say the aim is to move businesses from high-level assumptions to actionable metrics that can withstand regulatory and investor scrutiny. “Fragmented farm-level data makes it difficult to identify emissions hotspots or deploy targeted interventions,” said Furqonuddin Ramdhani, Co-Chief Product Technology Officer. “We’re combining geospatial intelligence with verified field data so emissions become visible and usable.”

The company’s modules include land-use and deforestation tracking aligned with the EU Deforestation Regulation, Scope 3 accounting via integrations such as the Cool Farm Tool, and carbon stock estimation through biomass analytics. Together, these tools enable compliance with frameworks including the GHG Protocol, IPCC guidance and SBTi FLAG.

Market observers note rising demand from food processors, traders and retailers facing tightening disclosure regimes under CSRD and evolving carbon-claim standards. Verified emissions data also supports regenerative agriculture initiatives and supplier engagement strategies.

Koltiva CEO Manfred Borer said credible measurement will increasingly determine market access. “Companies that can accurately measure and reduce emissions will set the benchmark, while others risk falling behind,” he said.

With environmental accountability becoming central to procurement and financing decisions, farm-level data systems are shifting from optional sustainability tools to core operational infrastructure.
