NEW DELHI, 23 July 2026: A new sea-route export protocol developed by ICAR–Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (ICAR-CISH) and the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has enabled the successful export of 12.5 tonnes of Dashehari and Langra mangoes from Uttar Pradesh to Dubai, reducing logistics costs while improving returns for farmers.
The consignment, exported by Shehnaz Export in partnership with Attashi Global to Lulu Group UAE, was shipped in a 40-foot refrigerated container from Amroha after following scientific post-harvest practices developed by ICAR-CISH.
The mangoes were harvested on June 22, treated with METWASH, graded, packed and transported under a continuous cold chain. Despite taking 25 days to reach Dubai due to weather-related delays caused by Western Disturbances, nearly 90% of the fruit remained in marketable condition, validating the effectiveness of the sea-route protocol.
The successful shipment marks the first commercial sea export of Dashehari and Langra mangoes from Uttar Pradesh to Dubai under such an extended harvest-to-market transit period.
According to the government, sea freight significantly lowers transportation costs compared with air cargo, allowing exporters to pay farmers ₹15–20 per kg more than conventional export channels while maintaining the competitiveness of Indian mangoes in overseas markets.
The technology is expected to encourage greater adoption of sea freight for mango exports from Uttar Pradesh and other producing states, expand access to Gulf and international markets, boost export earnings, and improve the incomes of mango growers.
