The cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has approved the proposal for transfer two acres of land from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi to the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) on lease basis for a period of 99 years at a total lease rent of Rs.8,01,278/- @ Rs. 1 per sq. meter per year.

As against the estimated requirement of 67200 veterinary doctors in the country, there are 67,784 registered veterinary practitioners as on March 31, 2015, Indian minister of state for agriculture & farmers welfare, Sudarshan Bhagat informed the parliament recently.
