PATNA, 29 April 2025: The Compound Livestock Feed Manufacturers Association (CLFMA) of India, in collaboration with the U.S. Grains Council and supported by the Bihar Poultry Farmers Association (BPFA), successfully organized a strategic seminar titled “Poultry in India: Current Challenges & the Way Forward” in Patna.
The event gathered over 60 key stakeholders from the poultry feed, livestock feed, and animal nutrition sectors, including poultry farmers, grain suppliers, researchers, and feed manufacturers.
Opening the session, Ms. Nayantara A Pande, Marketing Specialist at the U.S. Grains Council, welcomed participants. This was followed by a keynote from CLFMA Chairman Divya Kumar Gulati, who emphasized the pressing challenges facing the Indian poultry industry, particularly the surge in maize prices and soybean costs, which form 90% of poultry feed expenses. Citing a Crisil Ratings report, he noted a projected 50 basis point dip in industry profitability for FY 2025–26, even as revenue growth remains promising at 8–10%, driven by strong domestic demand.
The seminar focused on sustainable agriculture and the need for strategic partnerships to navigate volatile feed grain markets. Amit Sachdev, Regional Consultant, U.S. Grains Council, provided an overview of India’s feedstock scenario and its global implications. Reece H Cannady, Director at the Council, introduced U.S. sorghum as a viable grain supply alternative for the poultry industry.
A technical session led by Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh from Bihar Animal Sciences University highlighted recent research on the use of Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles (DDGS) in animal nutrition. He advocated DDGS as a cost-effective and efficient component of poultry feed, aiding in reducing dependency on traditional feed grains.
A panel discussion, moderated by Anmol Feeds MD Amit Saraogi, brought together top industry voices including Pawan Kumar (BPFA), B.M. Sahni (Patliputra Feeds), and CLFMA’s Gulati, who collectively called for policy reforms, sustainable feed alternatives, and long-term resilience across the poultry supply chain.
The session reinforced CLFMA’s leadership in driving conversations on sustainable growth in India’s poultry ecosystem, promoting collaboration across stakeholders to ensure stability in livestock feed and a thriving poultry sector.
