One-shot protection for Bursal, Newcastle, and Marek’s disease

MUMBAI, 29 June 2025: Boehringer Ingelheim, a global leader in animal health, has rolled out its latest next-generation poultry vaccine in India. This single-dose vaccine offers broad protection against three of the most challenging avian diseases — Bursal disease, Newcastle disease, and Marek’s disease — with a single administration at the hatchery.

Designed for early, robust, and long-lasting immunity, the vaccine addresses the needs of India’s poultry sector, which plays a vital role in food security and rural incomes. Multiple disease outbreaks have long threatened farm productivity, creating high costs for farmers due to repeated field vaccinations and labour-intensive processes.

Benefits for farmers and bird welfare

By combining protection against three diseases into one shot, the vaccine reduces the burden of multiple vaccinations, minimises handling stress on birds, and helps lower labour requirements, making it easier for farmers to manage their flocks while maintaining strong disease control.

Dr. Vinod Gopal, Country Head of Animal Health at Boehringer Ingelheim India, highlighted the farmer-focused approach. “We understand the pressure Indian poultry farmers face—from disease control to operational efficiency. This vaccine reflects our commitment to bringing science-led, farmer-focused innovations to the market,” he said.

Expert views: innovation and practicality

Dr. K. S. Prajapati, Former Head of the Department of Veterinary Pathology at Anand Agricultural University, commented that the solution comes at the right time. “Farmers need solutions that are both effective and practical. A vaccine that offers early, combined immunity against three major diseases is a valuable tool that helps farmers secure their flocks and reduce reliance on antibiotics,” he said.

The vaccine is designed to work in broilers, layers, and breeders, and can be given either in ovo or via subcutaneous injection at the hatchery.

This launch marks Boehringer Ingelheim’s second major poultry vaccine introduction in India in the past year, reinforcing its commitment to deliver farmer-centric innovations that support productivity, profitability, and sustainable food systems.
