ALAPPUZHA, 02 November 2016 : After Delhi, Avian influenza has hit Kerala's Alappuzha district, where ducks have been reportedly died due to avian flu (H5N1 virus).
Looking at this, Kerala Animal Husbandry Minister, K Raju has today ordered culling of 100,000 ducks.
Speaking on this, Raju said that, earlier we use to cull all the birds affected in one kilo meter radius, but now, we have decided only to culls affected ducks in the area they have been identified.
Last week, the presence of the virus was detected in four villages of this district, following which around 38,000 ducks have been culled and the remaining would be done in the coming days.
The Minister has already announced that adequate compensation would be provided for each bird and egg destroyed.
Two years ago, more than 200,000 poultry birds were culled in Alappuzha, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta districts following an outbreak of avian flu.
