NEW DELHI, 20 June 2025: In a landmark move to deepen bilateral ties, India and Croatia signed four key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first official visit to Croatia on June 18, marking a historic moment in Indo-Croatian relations.
The MoUs include: Agricultural Cooperation; Programme of Cooperation in Science and Technology; Cultural Exchange Programme (CEP); and Establishment of a Hindi Chair at the University of Zagreb.
The agreements were signed in the presence of PM Modi and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, who held wide-ranging discussions on strengthening strategic partnerships between the two nations.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the leaders emphasized improved connectivity and maritime cooperation, especially through the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). Both nations recognized the potential of Croatia as a Mediterranean gateway to Central Europe, owing to its strong maritime tradition.
PM Modi’s visit to Croatia comes as part of a three-nation tour that included Cyprus and Canada, where he participated in the G7 Summit and met with global leaders including French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
“This visit ushers in a new chapter in our shared journey of friendship and extensive cooperation,” PM Modi posted on social media platform X, expressing gratitude for Croatia’s warm reception.
During their meeting, the two prime ministers acknowledged shared democratic values and the growing momentum in tourism, trade, and technology cooperation. They also discussed enhancing India-EU ties and collaboration in multilateral forums.
With the signing of these MoUs, India and Croatia reaffirm their commitment to expanding diplomatic, economic, cultural, and academic partnerships in the years to come.
