NEW DELHI, 15 May 2025: The Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) Director General M L Jat on Wednesday underscored that India’s aspiration to become a developed nation cannot be realized without a strong focus on agriculture and public service.
Addressing officers at a training programme under the ‘Rashtriya Karmayogi – Large Scale Jan Seva Programme’, Jat called for a renewed commitment to both sectors to help achieve Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Vikshit Bharat by 2047.
Jat, who also serves as the secretary of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), inaugurated the session and stressed the moral imperative of public service. “‘Jan Seva Hi Prabhu Seva’ is more than a slogan—it’s a guiding principle. Officials must embody this spirit to truly serve the nation,” he said.
Highlighting agriculture’s centrality to national development, he remarked, “A Vikshit Bharat cannot be achieved without the development of agriculture. All four pillars of progress are closely tied to this sector.”
Jat further emphasized the importance of respect, shared vision, and joy at work as foundational elements for becoming a true ‘Karmayogi’. He encouraged officials to internalize these values to foster genuine societal transformation.
R C Agarwal, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Education), ICAR, also addressed the gathering, sharing that ICAR/DARE has been recognized as the top-performing body under the programme. He stressed that while knowledge and skills are crucial, interpersonal bonds are equally vital for impactful governance.
Launched by the Capacity Building Commission on September 12, 2024, the Rashtriya Karmayogi programme aims to strengthen citizen-centric service delivery and reignite the spirit of ‘Seva-Bhaav’ across ministries.
