PANJI, 24 October 2016 : To promote pesticide free farming in the state, Goa state government has launched a state sector scheme titled assistance for use of organic inputs by the farmer.
Under this scheme, the state government will provide 50 per cent assistance of up to $150 per hectare and a maximum of $300 per two hectare to a farmers using organic inputs.
The state governemnt feels that this will help the state to become completely organic in the years to come and the state can become second state after Sikkim to turn organic.
Speaking on this, director, agriculture, Ulhas Pai Kakode said that the schemes will bring farmers to turn organic rather than spending on fertilizers and pesticides for their farms.
Kakode also said that organic fertilizers such as vermi-compost, mushroom waste, neem cake etc; bio-fertilizers such as rhizobium, azotobacter, azospirillium etc will be made available for the farmers to buy in the state.
Farmers with a Krishi card and cultivating a minimum area of 0.1 hectare in the state are eligible for this scheme.
