NEW DELHI, 10 July 2025: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has called for a nationwide shift towards natural farming, citing its health benefits, sustainability, and potential to enhance crop yields. Addressing women from cooperative societies across Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, Shah said natural farming is not only beneficial for human well-being but also restores the health of Mother Earth.
The remarks were made during a programme in Ahmedabad on July 5, organised to mark International Cooperatives Day. The event was broadcast on Wednesday.
“Food grown without the use of fertilisers or chemicals keeps people away from medicines and doctors. I’ve personally adopted natural farming and seen a 1.5x increase in yield,” Shah said.
He explained that earthworms play a key role in regenerating soil and replacing synthetic fertilisers like urea, DAP, and NPK. “Earthworms digest the soil and turn it into natural manure. The land remains unharmed, and water usage is reduced,” he added.
Government Steps to Promote Natural Farming
Shah highlighted several policy initiatives taken by the Ministry of Cooperation, including the formation of a national-level cooperative for grain procurement under natural farming practices. He added that a separate export-oriented cooperative has also been created to help farmers sell produce globally, with profits transferred directly into farmers’ bank accounts.
The minister reiterated that natural farming aligns with India's cultural ethos and is essential for long-term food security, soil regeneration, and reduced dependence on agro-chemicals.
