NEW DELHI, 28 June 2025: In a strategic step toward global cooperation and technological advancement, a high-level delegation of Indian sugar cooperative leaders visited Brazil as part of the India-Brazil Sugar and Bio-Energy Mission, organized by the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF) in collaboration with the Indian and Brazilian embassies.
The mission aimed to explore Brazil's globally renowned advancements in sugar production, energy co-generation, and bio-energy innovation, offering valuable insights for India's own sugar industry.
Key Site Visits: Cutting-Edge Sugar and Energy Tech
During the study tour, the delegation visited Usina Sugar Factory, a state-of-the-art production unit with a crushing capacity of 21,000 tonnes cane per day (TCD) and a 48 MW co-generation plant. The group observed high-efficiency production systems, advanced quality control, and energy generation technologies in action.
A major technical highlight was the visit to the Centro de Tecnologia Canavieira (CTC), the world’s largest sugarcane research institution. CTC is known for its pioneering research in sugarcane genetics, productivity, and bio-energy innovation, including next-gen technologies aimed at sustainability and efficiency.
Knowledge Exchange and Strategic Dialogue
The delegation participated in a technical workshop hosted at RnR Advogados headquarters in Campinas, a major industrial and energy hub in Brazil. The workshop covered policy frameworks, investment strategies, and market opportunities in Brazil’s sugar and ethanol sectors. Discussions emphasized legal and regulatory insights, enabling Indian cooperatives to better navigate potential partnerships and ventures.
Strengthening India–Brazil Ties in Bio-Energy
The mission included prominent leaders such as NFCSF President Harshvardhan Patil, MP Bajrang Sonawane, MLAs Rajesh Tope, Abhijeet Patil, Dr. Vishwajeet Kadam, and Rahul Aawade, along with IFFCO Director Vivek Kolhe and several chairpersons and directors from India’s cooperative sugar mills.
The delegation emphasized the value of cross-border knowledge exchange, highlighting how Brazil’s success in integrating sugar production with clean energy can inspire similar reforms in India. They also expressed optimism about future joint ventures, R&D partnerships, and sustainable development projects between the two nations.
