NEW DELHI, 25 June 2026: In a significant move to safeguard farmer incomes and ensure remunerative prices for agricultural produce, the Central Government has approved large-scale procurement of pulses and oilseeds at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) for Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Haryana.
The approvals were granted by Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan through a video conference review meeting. The decision is expected to provide crucial market support to pulse and oilseed growers while protecting them from price fluctuations and distress sales.
Uttar Pradesh Receives Largest Procurement Package
Among the four states, Uttar Pradesh emerged as the biggest beneficiary under the latest procurement approvals.
For the Summer 2026 season, the Centre approved procurement of:
- 48,298 metric tonnes (MT) of moong
- 97,970 MT of urad
- 41,718 MT of groundnut
The combined MSP value of the approved procurement exceeds ₹1,490 crore, making it one of the largest support packages for pulse and oilseed farmers in the state.
Officials said the move will strengthen market confidence among farmers while ensuring that producers receive MSP benefits for their crops.
Gujarat Gets Approval for 18,250 MT of Moong Procurement
The Agriculture Ministry has also approved procurement of 18,250 MT of moong in Gujarat under the Price Support Scheme for the Summer 2026 season.
The procurement carries an MSP value of more than ₹160 crore and is expected to provide substantial price support to moong growers across the state.
The decision comes amid continued efforts by the Centre to encourage pulse cultivation and improve farmer profitability through assured procurement mechanisms.
Tamil Nadu's Procurement Target Enhanced
In Tamil Nadu, the Centre approved an increase in the procurement limit for moong under the Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2025-26.
The state's procurement target has been raised from 885 MT to 990 MT, allowing an additional 105 MT of moong to be purchased under MSP operations.
The total value of the approved procurement is estimated at ₹8.68 crore, providing direct benefits to farmers cultivating the pulse crop.
Haryana Farmers to Receive MSP Support
The government has also sanctioned procurement of 2,115 MT of moong in Haryana during the Summer 2026 season.
The procurement is valued at more than ₹18 crore and is expected to provide an important safety net for farmers by ensuring fair prices for their produce.
Agriculture officials noted that MSP procurement remains one of the most effective tools for protecting farmers from adverse market conditions and price volatility.
Strengthening Farmer Incomes
The latest approvals form part of the Centre's broader strategy to boost domestic production of pulses and oilseeds while enhancing farmer incomes through assured procurement and market support.
By guaranteeing procurement at MSP, the government aims to reduce the risk of distress sales, stabilize farm revenues, and encourage farmers to continue cultivating essential crops such as moong, urad, and groundnut.
The initiative is particularly significant as India continues efforts to strengthen self-sufficiency in pulses and edible oils while improving the economic resilience of the agricultural sector.
Officials said the procurement operations will be carried out through designated agencies under the Price Support Scheme, ensuring timely purchases and direct benefits to eligible farmers.
The Centre's decision is being widely viewed as a major relief measure for pulse and oilseed growers, reinforcing the government's commitment to farmer welfare and agricultural sustainability through effective MSP implementation.
