NEW DELHI, 7 March 2024: The Union Ministers for Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare and Rural Development jointly launched four key initiatives aimed at empowering farmers and improving soil health in India.

Key Initiatives

  • Revamped Soil Health Card Portal and Mobile App: This upgraded platform allows farmers to easily access soil testing services. The mobile app facilitates sample collection with QR code verification and provides real-time updates on testing progress. The portal offers fertilizer recommendations, emoji-based health cards, and GIS analytics for a user-friendly experience.
  • School Soil Health Programme: This expanded program establishes soil labs in 1000 Kendriya Vidyalaya, Navodaya Vidyalaya, and Eklavya Model Schools. Students will collect samples, analyze soil health, and educate farmers on improving soil quality. This fosters environmental awareness and practical learning in agriculture.
  • Krishi Sakhi Convergence Programme: This collaboration between the Agriculture and Rural Development ministries empowers women as "Krishi Sakhis" (farm friends). Trained Krishi Sakhis provide crucial support to farmers by:
    • Raising awareness about natural farming and soil health management.
    • Connecting farmers with Krishi Vigyan Kendras (agricultural knowledge centers) and government departments.
    • Acting as a bridge between research institutions and grassroots farmers.
    • Enhancing livelihood opportunities for themselves.
    • Promoting sustainable farming practices.
  • Central Fertilizer Quality Control and Training Institutes' (CFQCTI's) Portal: This new online platform introduces a one-time password (OTP) system for fertilizer sample collection and testing at ports. This enhances transparency and streamlines the quality control process for imported fertilizers.

Focus on Empowerment and Sustainability

These initiatives highlight the government's commitment to empowering farmers through access to technology, knowledge, and resources. They also aim to promote sustainable agriculture practices that improve soil health and long-term agricultural productivity.

Looking Ahead

The successful implementation of these programs is expected to significantly benefit farmers by improving soil health, increasing crop yields, and enhancing rural livelihoods.
