NEW DELHI, 25 June 2025: The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has extended the deadline for submission of bids under its ambitious green ammonia tender to June 30, 2025, providing additional time for industry stakeholders to participate in the landmark clean energy initiative.
The tender is part of the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Scheme - Mode 2A, Tranche I, and aims to catalyze the production of 7.24 lakh tonnes of green ammonia annually.
Originally launched on June 7, 2024, and with an earlier deadline of June 26, 2025, the extension reflects growing interest from developers looking to invest in India’s green hydrogen ecosystem.
Greening India’s Fertilizer Sector
The green ammonia produced under this initiative will be supplied to 13 fertilizer manufacturing units across India, replacing traditionally fossil fuel-based ammonia production, which is known for high carbon emissions. The move is designed to decarbonize India’s agricultural inputs and bolster energy transition in one of the country's most resource-intensive sectors.
Ammonia is a key ingredient in nitrogen-based fertilizers such as urea. Transitioning its production to green hydrogen–based systems represents a major leap toward carbon neutrality in Indian agriculture.
Long-Term Offtake and Government Incentives
SECI, as the nodal implementing agency, will aggregate demand and enter into 10-year offtake agreements with successful bidders. These long-term contracts are expected to reduce investment risk, ensure predictable revenue flows, and accelerate the buildout of green hydrogen infrastructure.
To further incentivize adoption, the government has backed the initiative with Production Linked Incentives (PLIs) and a Payment Security Mechanism (PSM) to guarantee timely payments by end-users.
Supporting India’s Net-Zero Goals
This tender supports the Indian government’s broader objectives under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, contributing directly to the country's aim of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2070.
By extending the bid deadline, SECI is ensuring broader participation and more competitive proposals, paving the way for commercial-scale deployment of green ammonia in the country’s agri-energy ecosystem.
