, 10 September 2016 : India’s horticulture production has recorded a marginal growth in horticulture production at 283.36 million tonnes during 2015-16, which is 0.8 per cent higher than the previous year.
This was reported in the third advance estimates for 2015-16 of area and production of horticulture crops released by the Indian ministry of agriculture’s Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare recently.
The report said that these estimates are based on the information received from different state and union territories in the country.
The report said that production of fruits is estimated to be 91 million tonnes which is 2 per cent higher than previous year.
Production of vegetables is estimated to be around 167 million tonnes during 2015-16, which is almost same as the previous year.
Production of onion is estimated to be around 21 million tonnes which is 11% higher than the previous year and production of potato is estimated to be around 43.7 million tonnes which is 9 per cent lower than the previous year, whereas, tomato output is estimated to be around 18.4 million tonnes which is about 12 per cent higher than the previous year.
