NEW DELHI, 12 August 2025: The Union Government, under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), has sanctioned 58 Centres of Excellence (CoEs) for fruits and vegetables across various States to strengthen innovation, training, and productivity in the sector.
Developed in collaboration with bilateral partners such as Israel, the Netherlands, and New Zealand, as well as leading Indian research institutions, these CoEs serve as demonstration hubs for modern horticultural practices. They provide hands-on training, disseminate the latest production technologies, and facilitate the supply of high-quality planting material to farmers.
The initiative aims to bridge the gap between research and field-level adoption by promoting capacity building, technology transfer, and entrepreneurship in horticulture. By fostering self-reliance, the CoEs are expected to boost productivity, improve quality standards, and enhance sustainability in fruit and vegetable farming.
Officials said the model not only promotes innovation but also delivers tangible economic benefits to farming communities, supporting the Government’s vision of modernising agriculture through knowledge-driven interventions.
