NEW DELHI, 5 July 2026: India and the Republic of Seychelles have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen bilateral cooperation in agricultural research, education, capacity building and technology transfer during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official visit to the island nation.

The agreement was signed between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Agriculture Department under the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Blue Economy, Republic of Seychelles, marking a significant step towards expanding agricultural collaboration between the two countries.

To operationalise the partnership, both sides also signed a five-year Work Plan (2026–2031) that outlines cooperation in key sectors, including climate-smart agriculture, horticulture, livestock development, post-harvest management, and sustainable food and nutritional security.

The partnership aims to promote joint research programmes, facilitate the exchange of scientists, researchers and students, and enable the sharing of advanced agricultural technologies and best practices.

Officials said the collaboration is expected to strengthen institutional linkages, improve agricultural productivity, enhance technical capacity, and support sustainable agricultural development while addressing emerging challenges such as climate change and food security.

The initiative also reinforces India's growing engagement with the Global South through agricultural diplomacy and knowledge sharing.

With more than 100 Memoranda of Understanding signed with partner institutions worldwide, ICAR continues to expand India's international agricultural partnerships, promoting innovation, sustainable farming, and global food and nutritional security.

The latest agreement with Seychelles further strengthens bilateral cooperation while supporting efforts to build resilient and climate-smart agricultural systems.
