RESUBELPARA, 15 July 2025: In a major push for rural prosperity and sustainable agriculture, the CM Farm+ Inputs Distribution Programme was launched on Tuesday at the Multi Facility Hall in Bakrapara, Resubelpara, North Garo Hills.

The initiative, aimed at enhancing horticultural productivity and farmer incomes, was organised by the Office of the District Horticulture Officer.

The programme saw the distribution of high-yielding variety (HYV) crop saplings and other critical inputs to farmers. The scheme is part of a statewide drive to cover 10,000 hectares with high-value plantations backed by a INR 300 crore investment from the Meghalaya government.

Speaking as the chief guest, Deputy Speaker and Resubelpara MLA Timothy D Shira highlighted the initiative’s role in promoting scientific farming techniques and ensuring long-term economic sustainability for farmers.

“Through CM Farm+, farmers will not only receive quality planting material but also training, technical assistance, and financial support. This will improve yields and rural livelihoods,” Shira said.

Additional Deputy Commissioner YW Momin urged beneficiaries to maintain a high survival rate of plants to qualify for additional subsidies and market linkage assistance. She emphasised that proper plantation practices would minimise losses and contribute to better returns.

Salma G Momin, Assistant Director of Horticulture, explained the ecological and economic benefits of cultivating crops like vanilla, avocado, black pepper, cocoa, cinnamon, and cardamom. These high-value crops are suited for intercropping, allowing them to thrive under existing tree canopies without harming the natural ecosystem.

“This model ensures sustainability by promoting forest preservation while enhancing farmer incomes,” she said.

Earlier in the day, the Deputy Speaker distributed saplings of vanilla and black pepper to selected farmers, marking the symbolic start of the initiative. The programme is expected to create employment, promote scientific horticulture, and reinforce Meghalaya’s transition toward value-added agriculture.
