TEHRAN, 23 April 2025: Iran is pushing for deeper agricultural cooperation with BRICS member nations, following its active role in the 15th BRICS Agriculture Ministers Meeting, according to a report by IRIB.

Speaking at a press conference, Agriculture Minister Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh said Iran’s proposals received unanimous approval and were officially included in the summit’s final declaration. Key initiatives proposed by Iran include, a sub-working group on fisheries; a union of agricultural research institutes; and a consortium of vaccine producers across BRICS nations.

Ghezeljeh also highlighted the need for stronger financial cooperation, trade facilitation, and joint agricultural investments within the BRICS bloc.

During bilateral meetings on the sidelines, Iran held talks with Brazil and India to boost agri-trade. Brazil agreed to work with Iran on removing export barriers and streamlining protocols for agricultural goods like caviar, pomegranates, apples, kiwis, and dried fruits.

While Iran is approaching self-sufficiency in meat production, the minister said Iran may leverage Brazil’s export infrastructure to supply halal meat to Muslim-majority nations.

Iran is also looking to expand exports of livestock and poultry products, while continuing strategic imports of essential animal feed ingredients like corn, soybeans, and edible oils.

The Iranian delegation visited Port of Santos, South America’s largest port, where Iranian cargo accounts for about 7% of the port's annual 180-million-ton volume. Discussions are underway to establish a dedicated terminal and explore joint investment ventures with Brazilian partners.

Ghezeljeh also met with Iranian entrepreneurs in Brazil and global agri-companies, signaling a long-term vision for enhanced trade integration and technology partnerships in agriculture.
