BARCELONA / Spain, 8 May 2025: In a significant step towards strengthening sustainability in the aquaculture sector, Corbion, the global leader in algae-based omega-3 solutions, has joined the Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) as an associate member.

This collaboration is expected to accelerate the transformation of shrimp farming into a more transparent, responsible, and environmentally sustainable industry.

The SSP is a pre-competitive collaborative platform working to elevate global shrimp aquaculture standards through innovation, partnerships, and the adoption of best practices. With the inclusion of Corbion, the SSP further expands its growing network of partners that are driving positive change across the seafood supply chain.

“Having Corbion’s support enriches our reach and strengthens our ability to promote better practices,” said Pamela Nath, Director of SSP. “We are confident that this alliance will generate a positive and lasting impact. At SSP, we strive to continuously raise the bar for sustainable shrimp farming, and this is possible through the collaboration of innovative partners like Corbion.”

Corbion, renowned for its AlgaPrime DHA—the world's leading algae-based omega-3 source—brings deep expertise in sustainable nutrition solutions to the partnership. The company’s products play a critical role in reducing dependence on wild fish in feed and improving the environmental footprint of aquaculture operations.

“Aquaculture is key to ensuring global food security, and we strongly believe its development should be guided by sustainability principles,” said Lenaïg Richard, Global Business Development Manager Aquaculture at Corbion. “Joining SSP is a logical and exciting step that aligns with our commitment to preservation, innovation, and responsible growth in the aquaculture industry.”

This partnership reflects the increasing importance of ecosystem collaboration to scale impactful, planet-positive aquaculture practices. Corbion joins a distinguished roster of SSP associate members including Adisseo, BASF, BIOLAN, BioMar, Cargill, dsm-firmenich, Inve Aquaculture, Nicovita, and Skretting, all united in advancing the future of eco-friendly, high-quality shrimp production.

With global seafood demand rising, initiatives like SSP and industry leaders like Corbion are working to ensure that aquaculture not only meets nutritional needs but does so in ways that are ethical, efficient, and environmentally sound.
