NEW DELHI, 21 July 2025: Technological expertise within BRICS member states—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—is redefining the global agricultural landscape, positioning the bloc as a central force in sustainable food production and security.

According to Hossein Shirzad of Shahid Beheshti University, quoted by Mehr News Agency, BRICS agricultural technology advances in precision farming, agricultural biotechnology, and data-driven analytics are fuelling impressive gains in efficiency and resource management.

China has emerged as a trailblazer in smart agriculture by deploying satellite imagery and agricultural drones at scale, enabling real-time crop monitoring and optimised use of water and agrochemicals. Meanwhile, Brazil’s pioneering work with genetically modified soybeans—specifically pest-resistant varieties—has set international benchmarks for yield improvement and sustainable farm practices.

Such strides in BRICS agricultural innovation mean smarter fertiliser and pesticide usage, dramatic resource savings, and reduced environmental impact—advances that resonate well beyond their borders.

As these countries strengthen their grip on global agricultural trade, their tech breakthroughs are influencing trade flows: Brazil is now a world leader in beef and soy exports, while China leverages its expertise to expand influence in grains and vegetables.

Crucially, BRICS-driven agricultural technology is not limited to member states. These innovations in sustainable farming techniques and agritech are being adopted across other developing economies, fostering international collaboration and capacity building in the sector.

As BRICS+ expands cooperation platforms, the group’s role in delivering global sustainable agriculture solutions stands to grow. With its continuous focus on advancing agrotechnology, BRICS is not just securing its own food future, but is shaping a more robust, innovation-driven, and sustainable framework for global agricultural production.
