ITANAGAR, 23 June 2025: Agriculture & Allied Minister Gabriel D Wangsu has urged farmers in Arunachal Pradesh to embrace agriculture not as a fallback but as a primary path to sustainable income and self-reliant living.

Speaking at a training session on scientific cultivation of high-value horticultural crops, held in Kanubari, Longding district, Wangsu emphasized that the future of rural prosperity lies in treating farming as a serious economic enterprise.

“Farming will provide sustainable income in the long run and contribute to a self-reliant lifestyle,” said Wangsu, addressing over 200 farmers from villages including Kamhua Noknu, Chopnu, Chatting, Ozakho, and Naitong. The event was part of the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture 2024–25, aimed at modernizing agriculture through scientific and profitable approaches.

Underscoring the importance of productivity, Wangsu called on farmers to adopt scientific methods that can maximize yields and maintain ecological balance. He also directed the Horticulture Department to ensure continuous monitoring and field-level support for farmers during the crop cycle. “Technical guidance should be provided throughout the season so that every beneficiary can succeed,” he said.

As a practical step toward this goal, Wangsu distributed saplings of commercially viable fruits such as jackfruit, avocado, dragon fruit, guava, rambutan, and amla—selected for their high market demand and nutritional benefits.

Officials from the Horticulture Department said the distributed saplings represent the first of multiple phases planned across Longding. They emphasized that hundreds more farmers will benefit from future distribution drives in coming months.

Also present at the event were Kanubari ADC Yashwa and senior departmental staff, who reiterated the government’s commitment to transforming the region’s agricultural potential through strategic, scientific intervention.

The program reflects a broader policy shift toward value-oriented farming, with the state government investing in infrastructure, advisory support, and commercial crop diversification to help smallholders turn agriculture into a sustainable livelihood model.

With high-value horticulture gaining momentum and farmers receiving targeted support, Arunachal Pradesh appears poised to scale new heights in agrarian development—anchored in science, sustainability, and farmer-centric planning.
