NEW DELHI, 18 June 2025: In a significant nationwide effort to connect agricultural innovation with grassroots farming, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that 13.4 crore farmers across 1.43 lakh villages participated in the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyaan campaign.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, the Minister called the campaign an unprecedented convergence of agricultural research, extension, and grassroots engagement.
Mr. Chouhan emphasized that the initiative directly supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India, where a thriving agriculture sector and prosperous farmers are central pillars. He noted that over 60,000 programs were organized during the campaign, with a special focus on tribal districts and remote regions, aiming to bridge the lab-to-land gap.
“This campaign was not just about outreach—it was about interaction, innovation, and inclusion. Farmers were able to voice their concerns and share their own innovations with scientists and officials,” said Chouhan. He reassured farmers of the government’s continued support, underscoring that the campaign is ongoing and not a one-time exercise.
A National Movement for Farmer Empowerment
The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyaan has been widely regarded as a transformational movement that brings scientific expertise to the doorstep of farmers. Scientists, extension workers, and agriculture officers visited villages, held interactive workshops, demonstrated new techniques, and learned about local innovations directly from the farmers themselves.
The Minister highlighted that this campaign is part of the government’s larger effort to double farmers’ income and position India as the food basket of the world. “Our objective is not only food security but also farmer prosperity,” he said.
Mr. Chouhan reaffirmed that government officials and agri-scientists would continue their field visits beyond this campaign to ensure that farmers' issues are heard and resolved in real time. He reiterated the commitment to creating a feedback-driven, technology-supported farming ecosystem where innovation is encouraged at every level.
With its scale, inclusivity, and farmer-first approach, the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyaan is being seen as a key component in India’s journey toward sustainable and self-reliant agriculture.
