LUCKNOW, 5 July 2025: Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi on Friday assured that there is no shortage of fertilisers in the state, as the government has made adequate arrangements to meet farmers’ needs for the current Kharif season.
Speaking to reporters here, Shahi said the Yogi Adityanath government was working proactively to ensure timely availability of seeds and fertilisers. He highlighted that 27 lakh metric tonnes of urea had already been arranged, with an additional 10 lakh metric tonnes being supplied, taking the total stock to 37 lakh metric tonnes.
During the previous Kharif season, total urea consumption was recorded at 32.84 lakh metric tonnes, indicating that this year’s availability comfortably surpasses anticipated demand.
“To curb irregularities and black marketing, the government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy,” Mr. Shahi said, adding that 26 FIRs had been registered and show-cause notices issued to 580 retail sellers.
He further informed that an additional 10 lakh metric tonnes of urea would be provided by the central government in July, ensuring sufficient stock through September.
Available stocks of other key fertilisers were also reported to be adequate: urea (15 lakh metric tonnes), DAP (2.90 lakh metric tonnes), NPK (2.91 lakh metric tonnes), MOP (0.77 lakh metric tonnes), and SSP (3.14 lakh metric tonnes).
A meeting with representatives of 26 fertiliser companies was held to ensure timely and transparent supply. The minister said 25 per cent of urea distributed through private company rake points will be routed via the Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Federation (PCF) to improve transparency and efficiency.
“The government is fully alert and prepared so that no farmer faces any difficulty,” Shahi said.
