KOHIMA, 3 July 2025: In a step toward modernizing agriculture, Nagaland’s Department of Agriculture officially launched a comprehensive digital infrastructure platform recently, aiming to transform farming practices and deliver better services to farmers.

The launch event, held at the Central Command Centre of the Directorate of Agriculture in Kohima, was attended by Advisor of Agriculture Mhathung Yanthan, Agriculture Production Commissioner Wezope Kenye, and other senior officials.

Yanthan praised the department’s efforts in adopting advanced technologies, including geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, mobile applications, and centralized servers, to build the platform.

He emphasized that the initiative would not only improve farming techniques and boost farmer incomes but also ensure timely, effective implementation of agricultural schemes.

Yanthan called on field officers to prioritize digital capacity building at the grassroots level so that farmers could benefit from real-time data collection, monitoring, and tailored advisory support.

“This is an important milestone for Nagaland’s farming community,” he noted. “Digital tools will help us plan better, use resources more efficiently, and reach our farmers with timely information.”

According to the department, the new platform is expected to enhance planning capabilities, strengthen monitoring, and streamline service delivery to thousands of farmers across the state, giving a much-needed push to agricultural growth.
