Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Amazon Kisan sign MoU to empower farmers

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Amazon Kisan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to combine strengths and create synergy between the two organizations for guiding farmers on scientific cultivation of different crops for optimum yield and income.

NEW DELHI, 15 June 2023: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Amazon Kisan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to combine strengths and create synergy between the two organizations for guiding farmers on scientific cultivation of different crops for optimum yield and income.

Under the MoU, ICAR will provide technological backstopping to the farmers through Amazon's network. This will help improve farmers' livelihood and boost crop yield. The MoU will also help ensure access to high quality fresh produce for consumers across India, including through Amazon Fresh.

Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary DARE & Director General ICAR, said, "The MoU with Amazon Kisan is a major step towards empowering farmers and improving their livelihood. ICAR will work with Amazon to provide farmers with access to the latest technologies and knowledge, which will help them improve their farming practices and productivity. This will ultimately lead to higher income and better quality of life for farmers."

Harsh Goyal, Director and Head- Fresh and Everyday Essentials, Amazon India, said, "We are committed to supporting the Indian farming community and this MoU with ICAR is a step in that direction. We believe that technology can play a transformative role in the agricultural sector and this partnership will help us bring the latest technologies and best practices to farmers across India. The MoU will be implemented through a series of initiatives, including:

  • Providing farmers with access to the latest agricultural technologies and knowledge.
  • Conducting training programs for farmers on improved farming practices.
  • Providing farmers with access to markets for their produce.
  • Providing financial assistance to farmers.

The MoU is a significant step towards empowering farmers and improving their livelihood. It is expected to have a positive impact on the agricultural sector and the Indian economy.
