, 03 August 2016 : With request from many states seeking more time to study Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), Indian ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare have extended the cut-off date for the scheme.

This come after many states have sought for extension of cut-off date on account of various reasons including delay in carrying out the requisite preliminaries and consequential delay in notification, this being the first season for implementation of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).

The matter has been considered and Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare was decided to extend the cut-off date for submission of insurance proposals upto and including August 10, 2016 by relaxing provision of Para IX (3 & 4) of Operational Guidelines of PMFBY & Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme, the Indian agriculture ministry said in a statement.

All cut-off dates for subsequent activities should accordingly be extended. This extension is valid only for crops where cut-off date earlier was July 31, 2016.

Earlier also Ministry extended the cut-off date for submission of insurance proposals under PMFBY up to August 2, 2016.

This is a one-time extension only and should not to be quoted as precedent in future. State Government may consider taking appropriate action regarding extension of cut-off date accordingly as deemed fit and inform all stakeholders including SLBC/Banks.
