NEW DELHI, 1 September 2025: The Union Government has approved the Digital Agriculture Mission in September 2024, with a vision to build a robust digital ecosystem to transform Indian agriculture. The Mission seeks to establish a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for the sector, including AgriStack, Krishi Decision Support System (Krishi-DSS), and Soil Fertility & Profile Maps.
The initiative is expected to empower farmers with timely access to reliable crop-related information, enable efficient decision-making, and foster farmer-centric digital innovations.
The AgriStack DPI will consist of three core registries maintained by states and union territories—Geo-referenced Village Maps, Crop Sown Registry, and Farmer Registry. These datasets will aid in authentication, access to government services, and allow farmers to digitally engage in markets for inputs, credit, insurance, procurement, and produce sales.
The Digital Crop Survey (DCS) will further enhance real-time monitoring by providing accurate crop area information at the plot level. Meanwhile, Krishi-DSS will integrate weather, soil, crop, water, and scheme data to provide crop and soil maps, yield estimation, and tools for drought and flood monitoring, supporting evidence-based policy and research.
To strengthen sustainable farming, the Soil and Land Use Survey of India (SLUSI) has launched a nationwide soil resource mapping programme to prepare standardized soil maps at village level, enabling rational crop planning.
The government is also continuing the Per Drop More Crop (PDMC) scheme, which promotes micro-irrigation systems such as drip and sprinkler irrigation. Farmers are eligible for subsidies of 55 per cent (small and marginal farmers) and 45 per cent (other farmers), with assistance capped at 5 hectares per beneficiary.
Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Ramnath Thakur, informed the Lok Sabha that these measures would not only ensure sustainable land and water use, but also integrate farmers into the digital economy, enhancing income opportunities.
