ITANAGAR, 11 July 2026: The Centre has assured comprehensive support for flood-affected families in Arunachal Pradesh, with Union Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announcing a detailed assessment of losses to homes, crops, and livestock following extensive aerial and ground surveys of the disaster-hit areas.
Chouhan, accompanied by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, visited several flood-affected districts, including Keyi Panyor, to assess the damage caused by heavy rains and interact directly with affected families.
During the visit, the Union Minister assured residents that the Centre and the state government were working in close coordination to ensure timely relief and rehabilitation under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing flood victims, Chouhan said every affected family would receive all possible assistance, adding that new houses would be built for families whose homes had been washed away. He also announced that damage to agricultural fields, standing crops, and livestock would be assessed to facilitate appropriate compensation.
Immediate relief, including food grains and essential supplies, is already being provided to affected communities, he said.
The minister praised the resilience of local communities, joining villagers in repairing flood-damaged roads and constructing protective embankments to prevent further inundation. He said the community-led efforts reflected the strength of collective action during natural disasters.
Earlier in the day, Chouhan met Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) K.T. Parnaik at Raj Bhavan in Itanagar to review the flood situation and ongoing relief operations.
Following the field visit, Chouhan chaired a high-level review meeting with Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, and senior officials to accelerate relief and rehabilitation efforts. He directed officials to ensure there was no delay in damage assessment or delivery of assistance to eligible beneficiaries.
Speaking after the meeting, the minister said roads, bridges, power infrastructure, communication networks, agricultural fields, and livestock had suffered extensive damage in several parts of the state.
He said the government's response is focused on two priorities—providing immediate relief through food, medicines, drinking water, and other essential services, while simultaneously conducting a detailed assessment to prepare a long-term rehabilitation plan.
Chouhan said the Arunachal Pradesh government has submitted a preliminary report, while a comprehensive assessment will be shared with the Centre after the survey is completed. He added that the findings would be presented to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister to facilitate further assistance.
The minister expressed confidence that coordinated efforts between the Centre and the state government would restore normalcy quickly while laying the foundation for scientific, long-term solutions to better manage future natural disasters.
