NIZAMABAD, 29 June 2025: Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, inaugurated the headquarters of the National Turmeric Board in Nizamabad today, fulfilling a 40-year-old demand of millions of turmeric farmers, especially in Telangana.
PM Modi Fulfills Long-Standing Demand of Turmeric Farmers
Shah highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government is committed to empowering turmeric farmers through initiatives such as the National Turmeric Board, National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL), and National Cooperative Organics Limited (NCOL), aiming to strengthen turmeric export opportunities and farmer incomes.
Turmeric Board to Streamline Marketing and Exports
Speaking at the event, Shri Shah noted that the National Turmeric Board will establish an end-to-end value chain for turmeric, covering packaging, branding, marketing, and exports, effectively removing middlemen from the process. He said, “With this board, Nizamabad’s turmeric will reach global markets within three to four years.”
Target: $1 Billion Turmeric Export by 2030
The Modi government has set a target of achieving $1 billion in turmeric exports by 2030, supported by a strategy to promote turmeric’s medicinal properties, including its antiviral, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory benefits.
According to Shah, the National Turmeric Board will also ensure turmeric farmers receive higher prices, with efforts underway to increase current farmgate prices (INR 18,000– INR 19,000 per quintal) by an additional INR 6,000– INR 7,000 per quintal over the next three years.
Telangana’s Leading Role in Turmeric Production
Turmeric production in India stood at 10.74 lakh tonnes cultivated on 3 lakh hectares in 2023–24, with Telangana districts such as Nizamabad, Jagtial, Nirmal, and Kamareddy recognized among the top producers. The new National Turmeric Board aims to promote GI-tagged organic turmeric, ensure quality and safety standards for global markets, and provide skill development and training to farmers.
Focus on Quality, Research, and Farmer Welfare
Shah further noted that research and development on turmeric’s health benefits will be prioritized to build international demand and awareness.
Other dignitaries present included Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy and Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
