NEW DELHI, 1 September 2025: The Centre on Tuesday detailed a range of measures being implemented to strengthen farm incomes and agricultural infrastructure, including Minimum Support Prices (MSPs), direct benefit transfers under PM-Kisan, and investment through the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF).
Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Ramnath Thakur told the Lok Sabha that the government fixes MSPs annually for 22 mandated crops based on the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs & Prices (CACP) and after consultations with States and relevant Ministries. A digital payment system has been introduced for MSP procurement.
While there is currently no farm loan waiver scheme, farmers are supported through structured interventions such as MSP, PM-Kisan, crop insurance, concessional credit, and infrastructure financing, Thakur said.

Under PM-Kisan, launched in 2019, a financial benefit of ₹6,000 per year is provided to landholding farmers in three instalments through direct transfers. So far, INR 3.69 lakh crore has been disbursed across 19 instalments.
The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), in operation since Kharif 2016, has provided claims worth INR 1.83 lakh crore against total farmer premiums of INR 35,753 crore, nearly five times the premium collected, as of June 30, 2025.
Through the Modified Interest Subvention Scheme (MISS), farmers accessing short-term loans via Kisan Credit Cards are offered concessional interest rates to meet their working capital needs.

The Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF), launched in 2020, has sanctioned INR 66,310 crore for 1,13,419 projects, mobilising investments of INR 1.07 lakh crore in the farm sector. These include over 30,000 custom hiring centres, 22,800 processing units, 15,900 warehouses, 3,700 sorting and grading units, 2,400 cold stores, and other post-harvest management assets.
Officials said these initiatives collectively aim to stabilise farm incomes, modernise agriculture, and build long-term resilience in the sector.
