THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, 29 April 2025: In a major boost to Kerala’s dairy sector, the Trivandrum Regional Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union (TRCMPU) of Milma has reported a record profit of INR 39.07 crore for the financial year 2024–25 — the highest in a decade.

The surplus has been distributed among dairy farmers across Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Alappuzha as additional price incentives and cattle feed subsidies.

According to TRCMPU Chairperson Smt Mani Viswanath, INR 35.08 crore has been passed on as price incentives while INR 3.06 crore was disbursed under the cattle feed subsidy scheme, directly benefiting members of milk cooperative societies in the region.

As part of a summer relief measure, the TRCMPU Board has also announced an additional INR 8 per litre incentive for April 2025, pushing the milk procurement price to INR 53.13 per litre. This temporary hike, expected to cost INR 6 crore, aims to provide immediate financial support to farmers grappling with rising input costs during peak summer.

TRCMPU has earmarked INR 27 crore for various dairy development and farmer welfare schemes for FY 2025–26. Since the new Board took over in December 2023, approximately INR 30 crore has been invested in productivity improvement and welfare initiatives.

Highlighting its inclusive approach, TRCMPU has continued flagship social welfare schemes including:

  • ‘Ksheera Sumangali’ – wedding aid for daughters of dairy farmers
  • ‘Swanthana Sparsham’ – medical assistance program
  • ‘Ksheera Soubhagya’ – savings scheme for girl children

Additional support initiatives implemented include silage at subsidized rates, calf adoption, cattle insurance with discounted premiums, and continued cattle feed support.

TRCMPU has also made significant market expansion efforts, further consolidating its position as a leading dairy cooperative in Kerala, while ensuring that economic gains reach grassroots dairy farmers, thereby reinforcing Milma’s role in advancing rural livelihoods and sustainable dairy development.
