NEW DELHI, 20 October 2016 : strong>New Delhi: In a view to fight malnutrition in the country, National Dairy Development Board (NDDB)'s subsidiary, Mother Dairy will be selling fortified milk by the end of 2017.

The fortified milk will come with vitamin A and D, which will be first available in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR).

Speaking on this development, Mother Dairy Managing Director, S Nagarajan said that we have already started adding vitamin A in the milk sold in our booths, and by the end of 2017, we will add vitamin A & D in both token and poly packed milk.

Mother Dairy sells an estimate 3 million liters of milk in Delhi-NCR region.

Nagarajan said the company is taking this initiative as a large part of population is having deficiency of micro-nutrients and also stressed that the additional expense to meet the vitamins needs will be taken care by the company and will not be passed to the consumers.

Nagarajan said the company would follow the standards fixed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on fortification of food.

FSSAI has developed comprehensive standards for fortification in milk, wheat flour, rice, edible oil and salt.

As per FSSAI standards, fortification of milk can be fortified with Vitamin A & D; salt can be done with iodine and iron, while vegetable oil and; wheat flour and rice with iron, folic acid, zinc, vitamin B12, vitamin A and some other micro-nutrients.
