INDORE, 6 May 2020: The Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA) has estimated a drop in soybean crop at 93.06 lakh tonnes during the October 2019 – September 2020, as compared to 109.33 lakh tonnes soybean crop output recorded during the same crop year last fiscal.
Announcing this, SOPA said that releasing the data was caused by delay in data collection due to lockdown. But we have made up for this delay by releasing data for April 2020 as well.
SOPA said that imports of soybean crop will increase to 300,000 tonnes during the October 2019 to September 2020 crop year period, from 120,000 tonnes imported during the previous year period.
The COVID 19 has had a serious adverse impact on the poultry and soybean processing industry and many of our past estimates have gone completely awry, SOPA statement stressed.
Due to lockdown, Crushing for oil year 2019-20 reduced by 8.5 lakh tonnes to 69 lakh tonnes and domestic meal consumption reduced by 5 lakh tonnes to 45 lakh tonnes.
Exports also recorded a decrease of 100,000 tonnes to 600,000 tonnes and the carry over soybean stock increased to 13.26 lakh tonness at the end of September 2020.
