MUMBAI, 28 January 2026: The Government of Meghalaya has announced the postponement of the Meghalaya Spice Festival in Mumbai, originally slated for January 30 to February 1, 2026, at Jio World Drive, citing the passing of Shri Ajit Pawar, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

In a statement, Meghalaya officials said the decision was taken “as a mark of respect” and in observance of the state mourning period declared following the tragedy. The decision reflects solidarity with the Government and people of Maharashtra during a time of bereavement.

The festival, designed to showcase the rich spice heritage, culture and culinary traditions of Meghalaya to national and international audiences, had been expected to draw culinary enthusiasts, traders, importers, distributors and tourism stakeholders in Mumbai.

The Government of Meghalaya expressed its “deepest condolences to the bereaved families,” affirming its support for the mourning period declared in recognition of Shri Pawar's public service.

Organisers said revised dates and further logistical details for the Meghalaya Spice Festival will be announced in due course, and stakeholders—including exhibitors, partners and attendees—will be informed once the new schedule is finalised.
