THIMPHU / Bhutan, 31 August 2025: India and Bhutan on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand technical cooperation in agriculture and allied sectors, underscoring their shared commitment to food security and rural development.

The agreement was signed by Devesh Chaturvedi, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India, and Thinley Namgyel, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Royal Government of Bhutan.

The MoU provides a framework for collaboration in agricultural research, livestock health, post-harvest management, value chain development, and exchange of knowledge and expertise.

Following the signing, the first Joint Technical Working Group (JTWG) meeting was held in Thimphu. Both sides agreed on the Terms of Reference for the group and identified priority areas for immediate action, including agricultural marketing, cooperatives, food processing, seed sector development, research, and capacity building.

Mr. Chaturvedi highlighted India’s efforts to integrate digital solutions in farming, promote climate-resilient practices, and improve credit and risk mitigation mechanisms for farmers.

The next JTWG meeting will be held in India at a mutually agreed date. Officials described the initiative as a milestone in the close ties between the two countries, aimed at advancing sustainable farming and rural prosperity.
