KOCHI, 22 January 2026: Global experts, policymakers, industry leaders, investors and entrepreneurs will converge for the 7th India International Seaweed Expo & Summit to be held on January 29–30 at ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CMFRI), Kochi.
The two-day international event will bring together delegates from the U.S, Russia, Australia, France, Scotland, Ireland, Maldives, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Tanzania to explore the vast economic, nutritional and environmental potential of seaweeds. Top officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and other central government departments are expected to attend, underscoring India’s growing focus on seaweed as a sunrise sector.
The event will be organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), CMFRI and CSIR-Central Salt Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSMCRI).
A global platform for collaboration, technology transfer and sustainable seaweed development, the Expo & Summit will feature high-level technical sessions, panel discussions and industrial exhibition. Key thematic sessions will focus on a range of areas including policies, financing, value chain, commercial cultivation, innovations, bioprospecting, nutraceuticals, product development, climate resilience and environmental sustainability. A special panel discussion will chart a roadmap for positioning India as a major player in the global seaweed economy.
Beyond policy and science, the Expo will function as a major B2B networking platform, bringing together leading industrial players from India and abroad with investors and entrepreneurs, fostering partnerships and business opportunities across the seaweed value chain.
Adding a strong public connect, the event will offer a unique opportunity to experience seaweed-based delicacies and explore a wide range of seaweed-derived products, including health supplements, functional foods, cosmetics and lifestyle products. Interactive stalls and displays will give the public a hands-on understanding of how seaweed is fast emerging as a sustainable solution for food security, livelihoods and green growth.
