MUMBAI, 9 July 2025: In a strategic move towards climate-resilient agriculture, SML Limited—formerly Sulphur Mills Ltd—has formally launched its biologicals division with the unveiling of two next-generation agri-inputs: StellarOn and Rootiva.

These bio-based formulations represent a decisive shift from traditional agri-chemicals to nature-positive, biology-driven inputs, aligning with India’s BioB3 policy and global trends in regenerative agriculture.

StellarOn, a patented microalgae-based biostimulant, has received regulatory approval and is designed to improve nutrient use efficiency and protein delivery, particularly under climatic stress. According to the company, the input is compatible with a wide range of cropping systems and has been developed to support both productivity and resilience.

Rootiva, a biofertilizer co-developed with Novonesis, was introduced recently in Vietnam. It features proprietary endomycorrhizal strains that enhance phosphorus and water uptake, strengthen root development, and boost yield, especially in soils affected by degradation and erratic rainfall.

“This is not merely product innovation—it’s a systems-level evolution of how we look at soil, microbes, and farming resilience,” said Komal Shah, Director – R&D, IP, and Portfolio Strategy at SML. “StellarOn marks the beginning of a new generation of inputs, while Rootiva is built to elevate soil biology from the ground up.”

The company’s leadership reiterated that this transition is anchored in SML’s research-led foundation and longstanding field engagement. Bimal D. Shah, Managing Director, said biologicals are becoming essential to not only climate resilience but also farm profitability.

Chairman Deepak Shah noted that the company’s investment in biologicals was a natural extension of its mission to enhance soil health, farmer incomes, and agricultural sustainability.

The partnership with Denmark-headquartered Novonesis, a global expert in microbial science, brings a layer of scientific validation and scalability to SML’s biologicals roadmap.

India’s $40 billion agri-inputs market is undergoing a fundamental shift toward low-residue, microbe-led solutions. With its early entry and innovation-driven approach, SML Biologicals is positioning itself as a frontrunner in the race to make Indian agriculture climate-smart, sustainable, and globally aligned.
