KOCHI, 25 December 2024: The ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) will conduct a short course on taxonomic techniques for marine biodiversity conservation from February 18 to 28.

The course, sponsored by Indian Council of Agricultural Research, is aimed to sensitise National Agricultural Research System (NARS) professionals with the knowledge and skills to apply taxonomic principles to fisheries development. The training will cover both theoretical concepts and practical applications, including the use of software tools. It will also provide insights into the critical role of statistics in taxonomy and its applications in fisheries research.

This initiative aligns with the UN Decade of the Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. The training assumes greater significance as marine taxonomy is crucial for understanding and conserving ocean biodiversity, enabling the identification and monitoring of species critical to ecosystem health. Taxonomy drives discoveries in biotechnology, medicine, and marine resource management.

Last date for receipt of applications is January 22, 2025. More details are available on the CMFRI website Phone- 9446415736.
