Chouhan inaugurates vet college block, declare INR 388 cr to Nagaland agri

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, inaugurated the new Administrative-cum-Academic Block of the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Central Agricultural University (Imphal), located in Jalukie, Nagaland.

IMPHAL, 17 May 2025: Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, inaugurated the new Administrative-cum-Academic Block of the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Central Agricultural University (Imphal), located in Jalukie, Nagaland.

The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister T. R. Zeliang, State Rural Development Minister Shri Metsubo Jamir, and Dr. Anupam Mishra, Vice Chancellor of Central Agricultural University (Imphal).

Highlighting Nagaland’s agricultural and livestock sector achievements, Shri Chouhan announced a financial aid package of Rs 338.83 crore aimed at strengthening the state’s agriculture infrastructure and growth. He urged the Nagaland government to develop a robust action plan for agriculture and rural development, promising full Central Government support to realize the state’s potential.

To improve agricultural outreach, the Union Minister recommended forming district-level scientific teams composed of scientists, Krishi Vigyan Kendra officials, university experts, and farmers. These teams would regularly engage with local farmers to identify challenges and implement technology-driven solutions at the grassroots level. Chouhan also emphasized the potential for expanding natural farming practices in Nagaland and assured the Central Government’s commitment to support such initiatives.

Chouhan praised the contributions of the Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry College in advancing animal health and agriculture education. He invited the college students to Delhi to share their innovative ideas and assured assistance for promoting student-led startups and entrepreneurship. During his visit, he also interacted with farmers at the Farmers’ Fair and explored various exhibition stalls.

Governor La. Ganesan, who presided over the ceremony, appreciated the university’s role in animal health care and agricultural development in the region. He stressed the importance of science-driven agriculture and strong partnerships among farmers and stakeholders to achieve the vision of a developed India by 2047.

Deputy Chief Minister T. R. Zeliang spoke about the critical role of research and technical interventions in boosting Nagaland’s agricultural productivity and economic progress.

The event saw participation from over 600 farmers and numerous officials from both the state and central governments.
