11th Indian Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum to kick off from Nov 21 - 24, 2017

ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (ICAR-CIFT) in collaboration with Asian Fisheries Society Indian Brach (AFSIB) is hosting the 11th Indian Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum (11th IFAF) at Cochin, Kerala during 21-24 November, 2017

ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (ICAR-CIFT) in collaboration with Asian Fisheries Society Indian Branch (AFSIB) is hosting the 11th Indian Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum (11th IFAF) at Cochin, Kerala during 21-24 November 2017. This illustrious event will be inaugurated by Indian Vice President, M Venkaiah Naidu at 4.00 pm on 21st November 2017 at Hotel Le Meridien, Kochi.

The Asian Fisheries Society - Indian Branch (AFSIB) since its inception in 1986, has been providing a scientific platform for discussion through intellectual deliberations by best of scientific talents from India and abroad on issues related to research, development, education and policies by organizing Indian Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum (IFAF) once in three years in different parts of the country.

ICAR-CIFT being a premier research institute in the country, which has proven its excellence in the development of fishing and fish processing technologies during last sixty years, has taken a maiden attempt to host the 11th IFAF along with AFSIB.

The 11th IFAF envisages to address the major issues hindering the growth of Fisheries and Aquaculture sectors by highlighting the recent developments in research and identify the research and development needs of the sector, nurturing innovation skills to bring sustainability and safety in fisheries sector, in addition encouraging researchers to think, develop and undertake need-based research and evolving policies for transfer and refinement of these technologies.

No doubt, it would provide a comprehensive outlook for Fisheries and Aquaculture sectors, for achieving greater synergy among various stakeholders in contriving strategies for capture fisheries, aqua farming followed by harvest and post-harvest in fisheries to build higher levels of sustainability and profitability in line with Blue Growth

Initiative giving emphasis in the following thematic areas:

Fisheries Resources” Genetics, Biodiversity and Management
Fishing Systems for Sustainable Fisheries
Fishery Biology, Toxicology, and Environment
Aquaculture production
Aquatic Animal Health Management
Adding Value to fish: Avenues in fish Processing & Packaging
Safe Fish: Quality, Risk Assessment and Regulations
Fishomics and Frontier Sciences for Blue Bio-economy
Socio-Economics, Gender, Capacity Building and Livelihood
Fisheries Trade, Policy and Governance

The event includes technical sessions, Aquaculture and Seafood Processors’ Conclave, and Technology showcasing by different organizations which will be attended by about 1000 delegates from India and abroad. In addition, a special session on ‘Gender in Aquaculture and Fisheries in India’ (GAF) will be organized during the event.
