HYDERABAD, 28 April 2025: In a major step toward modernizing Indian agriculture, Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTAU) and BITS Pilani have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into farming practices.
The agreement was formalized on Friday, with PJTAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Aldas Janaiah and BITS Pilani Vice-Chancellor Professor V Ramgopal Rao leading the initiative. Professor Rao highlighted that the partnership will pave the way for joint research projects, mentoring for PhD scholars, and the publication of high-impact research papers in the field of AI and digital agriculture.
Professor Janaiah outlined PJTAU’s ambitious vision of achieving unmanned farming by 2047, underlining the growing importance of digital transformation in agriculture. He emphasized that blending PJTAU’s agricultural expertise with BITS Pilani’s software innovation will lead to groundbreaking developments, including the design and deployment of agricultural robots for crops like cotton, rice, corn, and groundnut.
The collaboration is expected to bolster smart farming techniques, enhance precision agriculture, and contribute to India's goal of achieving food security through technological advancements.
