SOPA announces normal soybean crop sowing in the country as on July 20

The Indore based Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA) has released a quick survey of the soybean crop sowing in three states as on 20 Jul 2020.

INDORE, 22 July 2020: The Indore based Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA) has released a quick survey of the soybean crop sowing in three states as on 20 Jul 2020.

SOPA executive director D N Pathak in a statement said, "We have undertaken a quick survey of soybean crop in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan. Based on the survey, as on date, the crop condition is normal everywhere."

Madhya Pradesh (Area 55.070 Lakh Ha)

1.      Sowing done between 2nd week of June to Ist week of July 2020.

2.      About 50 percent area is already in flowering stage. The balance will be flowering in the next 10 to 15 days. Right now, the crop condition is normal.

3.      Rains are required in the next 5 to 7 days, otherwise the crop may be affected due to moisture stress, resulting in yield loss.

4.      Most popular variety is JS.95-60 which is early maturing.

5.      Crop is mostly free of weeds and insects. Infestation of Gram pod borer, Tobacco caterpillar and Green semi-looper has been observed in some areas and is being effectively controlled by spray of insecticides.

6.      Yellow mosaic virus has been seen in some parts of Nimar region.

Maharashtra (Area 38.175 Lakh ha.)

1.      Sowing period between 2nd week of June to 2nd week of July 2020.

2.      Re-sowing had to be done in 20 percent to 25 percent area, due to poor germination of first sowing.

3.      Crop condition is normal. Rains are needed in the next  5 to 7 days in some parts of  Latur, Osmanabad and Beed Districts, failing which crop may be affected due to moisture stress.

4.      Most popular sowing variety is JS.335.

5.      Crop is mostly free of weeds and insects. Infestation of Gram pod borer, Tobacco caterpillar and Green semi-looper has been observed in some areas and is being effectively controlled by spray of insecticides.

Rajasthan (Area 9.808 Lakh ha.)

1.      Sowing period between 2nd week of June to 2nd week of July 2020.

2.      Crop condition is normal. Rains required in next 5 to 7 days.

3.      Most popular variety is JS.95-60 which is early maturing.

4.      Crop is mostly free of weeds and insects. Infestation of Gram pod borer, Tobacco caterpillar and Green semi-looper has been observed in some areas and is being effectively controlled by spray of insecticides.
